Angles

This week my class has been learning about angles. We talked about all the different names for angles at first I had no idea what they meant but when we started to find out what the definition was of each of the words it seems much easier. After a while we were told to go outside and sit on the step. were doing a fun task we need to use the protractors and go around the school and measure 5 acutes 5 Obtuse and 5 right angle using the protractors to get used to measuring everything. I found more acute then obtuse and found more right angles in a acutes.

Moment in time

Glancing at the sun, eyes wide open, water splashing on my face, drifting wind shapes my   hair briefly.   paddling into erupting waves, cruising around on my board.  My board starts to   float backwards and straight away I start to paddle.  ( CRASH )  went the wave (SLAP) went my feet going on the bored.

New Zealand legend

last week we have been learning about local legends in New Zealand. We are doing this because we think it is important to remember the people that have gone before us and have been a leader in our life.

My person that I did was Jacindar Ardern New Zealand's prime minister I chose her because she has guided New Zealand through many difficult situations and she deserves to be remembered in 2020.

Here are some facts and cool things I found out about her and her life style.

Born on the 26th of July 1980 Hamilton NZ

She was only 37 years old when she had her first child

Moment in time

My heart was thumping louder than ever I was taking my last couple of breath's and swoosh down I go gliding in the wind  I can taste the dry wind in my mouth.

Swerving around rocks and drifting over trees scared for myself.

The announcement

Crash, bang, slam! Rushing into the house after school.

What happened I subtly asked my mum are we going back into lock-down?

My mum answered Jacinda ardern has not said anything yet. Mum sat on the couch very patently on the couch and me on the other hand very very un-patient running around the house like a mad man then finely she was on the topic if we were going back into lock-down. As we were holding our breaths hoping for the best then Jacinda ardern our prime minister announced we are staying at level 2.

Fireman to the Rescue!

( Heavily breathing ) churr  churr churr My heavy breathing was all I could hear my heart was thumping boom boom, boom boom whta was going through my head was such fear thinking if someone was trapped in the house or couldn't get out not knowing what is coming next as I walked through the cold, wet, burnt house I came across something rather small lying on the ground as I glimpsed closer and closer I finally realised it was a kitten I had to act fast I think it was dead but I picked it up gently anyway.
I walked out of the house and went to the fire truck and opened the side of the truck door and pulled our an oxygen tank and mask and I put it on the little kitten. I prayed that the kitten would wake up.
waiting in silence I heard a little squeak.

*Cross country recount*

Yesterday it was cross country I was very excited I had been practising a lot at school and at home but I did not know the track because if I was practising on the track then that would be cheating. Every year my school does cross country on my farm they always come up to me and say I love the mud,big hills and challenging tracks. We had to set everything up before the school gets here it felt like forever to set up and for everyone to get here. After a while everyone started to come in from the bus and not long after that the year 8 boys were called and GO off they went next was the year 8 girls and GO I was getting nervous the year seven's were being called so we all warmed up together and had a photo and GO my heart was already thumping I don't even think I had done 50 meters yet and I was puffed as the race went on I could here all my friends cheering me on go Alyx go that got me motivated to keep going even though I was absolutely worn out I had 1 kilometre left to do and I really wanted to win so I kept going before crossing the finish line I felt so proud of myself that I kept going I said in my head 3,2,1 and done I flopped down to the ground I had nothing left in me and I felt sick for a little bit but it went away and after all of that I came in 3 place at least I wasn't last.

{}{} Water Wheel {}{}

Last week on our contracts we had a Mahi tahi challenge.
Mahi tahi is when the 3 senior classes get put into different groups and we have to do a challenge.
we also have to think about the Four Cs Critical Thinking,Communication,Collaboration,Creativity.
Since we couldn't be together in the same class we did it as one class.
Our challenge was to make a water wheel that moves and picks up water.
we made it out of paper plates, straws, egg cartons, hot glue, tin foil, rubber bands, skewers and cups.
When we were finished we test it out and it worked perfectly but it didn't pick up water.

Travelling through the rainforest

Lately my class have been learning about the rainforest.  Mrs Cutler said we should do some art we all shouted "YAY"
So we got a piece of A3 paper and drew a simple light line of the shape of your rainforest leaf. Next we had to get the crayons and press lightly for the leaf at the front to look like it is popping out of the page and the leaves at the back darker to give it depth. Next thing we had to do is dye our backgrounds. Some of us used the light green, some of us the dark green and most of the class did light green and then a little bit of dark green over the top. This made it look more realistic.
My bird is a macaw, I chose the blue and yellow macaw because I wanted a bright bird that was different colour to my background

Level 1

We are now in level 1, a new beginning for everyone!
It feels weird to go from keeping social distancing and hand sanitising in mind to not needing to do it as much as we used to now.
It has been so long since we had started the year I was going to do dance competitions and then they were cancelled like soccer, rugby and lots of other sports.
I really hope the people who were chosen to go to the Olympics are training hard. We had been in level 4 from 26/3 - 27/4 then to level 3 28/3 - 13/5 and then to level 2 14/5 - 8/6 and since last night we are now in level 1.
I am proud of New Zealand because we are leading the world of having no cases and have successfully controled covid-19 and on the way to elimination.     (!!GO NEW ZEALAND!!) Give a big round of applause to our Prime minister Jacinda ardern

How to respect the environment

On Friday Mr. Gunn told the class a story about rata and the waka.
Rata's father died he felt sad so rata and so he shed it and in the next morning when the tree was starting site and so he did it again and so he started to do it again and he did it again so he hides behind a bush and then he saw some animals help but the man said what are you doing this is my way.

Down it goes

Last night I found the box of contractions witch is a box of blocks.
I had a goal to do Dominoes all the way down my hallway and in the kitchen a little bit.
My brothers really wanted to try and break it they thought it was funny but I did not.
It was a challenging because I had to put them up one by one and if it falls over I had to start over again.

hanging with the baskets

Last week one of our relief teachers came in from the request of our teacher Mrs Cutler.
She came into the school to help my class make our hanging baskets. We had to help help unload her car because their were lots of succulents to plant in our hanging baskets to put around the school.

We had to buddy up so me and my friend went together we chose lot's of pretty succulents with lots of different colours.
We chose succulents because we don't have to water them as much as we had to with a normal plant.

It was challenging  because we had to keep making the hole's deeper so the roots would be deep enough to spread around and we had to find different succulents big one's little one's tall and short one's and finally dangling one's.

My question to you is: Do you like to plant?

100 word micro story

The Lonely Star

One ordinary Saturday night Olivia and two year old brother
Toby were getting there coats on to go watch the
meteor shower on their balcony.  Just as it was starting
The clouds covered the brightly shining moon and all you
could see was the one star shining in the sky.
Then Toby said that star looks a little bit lonely
yeah he is the only one in the sky shining.
Suddenly there was a big bang in the sky then
a huge round thing shot out into the dark
and was carrying all of the stars and lit everything up.

Something I enjoyed about writing this micro story is that you can use your imagination.

( There is 10 words in every line that is why it looks a little bit funny )

The Helicopter

One day on our farm a helicopter came to put some fertiliser out all over the farm so the grass would grow while it was going to rain afterwords. The helicopter hovered over the fertiliser truck and socked up on fertiliser seeds. Then took of over the hill to the other side of the farm. After about two minutes it came bake to load up again and take of we watched it about four times then lefted to go home.

All my baking

This last couple of weeks we have been in lock down because of covid-19.

My mum is a Teacher so she has to work with me and my two brothers. I am in her class so that makes it so much easier in some ways.

So I decided to do some baking so my family could eat it and enjoy it, I wanted to try and be a professional but I can only just be me.

I baked scones, pancakes, donuts, nachos for dinner and my famous everybody's favourite slice .(That's actually what it's called everyone's favourites)  It is appositely my favourite I can tell you that.

The donuts was so easy to make they were only three ingredients.
Greek yoghurt and self raising flour and salt.

Here are some photos of my baking.

Spread a little kindness

Today Mrs Cutler our teacher gave us our contracts and on the contract there were lots of things to do but the she said we need to work on one thing on our contracts that need to be done all together.
The activity was that we had to write a special letter to the Switzer Home (a rest home). the doctors, fire department, pak'n save and much more. The reason why we did this is because we are thanking the people that are helping the community and supporting others.     We are doing this because we want to spread a little bit of kindness in the time we are in people are losing faith because of the covid 19 and we want to cheer them up with card to say thank you for supporting our community.

My confessions

This week Mrs Cutler read us a poem from William Carlos Williams it was a confession       poem that he made a long time ago.  It was about him stealing some plumbs from the ice   box we had to recreate his poem in our own words so we had some words that he had in   his poem that we transferred to our poems so it was like both of our poem but with our own   confessions.  something I enjoyed was writing poem that was about me taking a five finger   swipe through the wedding cake. Here is an image of my confession.
